Spray foam insulation can save you money, make you warmer and add value to your home. But how does it work?

How Spray Foam Insulation Works

Spray foam insulation can be used to insulate walls, roofs and ceilings in homeswarehousesboats, or whichever surface that requires extra structural support or insulation. It is made of polyurethane, polystyrene or other materials, which are mixed on site to create a reaction, so that it expands and hardens upon application. The foam insulation is then sprayed using a hose onto the surface, at which point it expands up to 100 times its size.

There are two types of spray foam insulation; open cell and closed cell, which allows users to acquire the perfect level of insulation for their project. Your spray foam insulation contractor will advise on which type is best.

How Icynene® Spray Foam Insulation Works

There are many brands of spray foam insulation on the market, including Foamseal, Isothane and Walltite. Many of these brands will offer DIY spray foam kits, which we strongly advise against. The only case when spray foam insulation could be toxic is when it’s not applied properly, and it takes many years of specialist training to become a contractor.

Icynene® spray foam insulation can only be applied for a certified Icynene® contractor, and is the only spray foam insulation on the market that offers so many unique benefits. Icynene® is applied in the same way as other spray foam, but with a different spraying method and chemical makeup. It is water blown, meaning that water pressure blows out the foam, compared to other methods that may use harmful chemicals.  Icynene® is also based on castor oil, rather than petroleum by-products, with no CFC’s or HCFC’s to make it environmentally friendly.
