FAQs

Can You DIY Spray Foam Insulation?

You cannot DIY spray foam insulation. A ‘do it yourself’ Icynene® spray foam insulation installation could be dangerous and end up costing thousands of pounds in repairs or removal, so we would never recommend that you DIY spray foam insulation.

At Mass Foam Systems, we professionally install temporary ventilation and then ensure that all our expertly trained team are wearing proper safety equipment. We then spray the applied residential areas with Icynene open cell spray foam and then seal the sprayed area for over 2 hours with the ventilation system running. Only after this process is the spray foam cured and completely safe.

Will I save money with DIY spray foam insulation?

You will almost certainly lose money if you attempt to DIY spray foam insulation. Firstly, without proper training and practice you will not get an even thickness. If the Icynene® foam is sprayed too thin, you won’t receive all the benefits of the insulation and you will lose considerable amounts of heat. Secondly, you will miss weak insulation points and your property will be prone to air leaks. This will make your home considerably colder. It could even lead to condensation, mould and damp, which could wreck your house.

Furthermore, ripping out badly installed insulation before reinstalling is a very costly process and can set you back thousands of pounds.

Icynene® spray foam insulation is proven to save money by reducing energy bills – so you make your money back in the long run.

So, can you DIY spray foam insulation? No, we would strongly advise against it.
