DIY Spray Foam Insulation

expanding-foam-insulation-400x533If there’s one way to cut costs when undergoing work on your home, it’s by doing it yourself. With traditional forms of insulation, such as glass mineral wool, it’s easy to place and there’s no wrong way to do it. Unfortunately, this isn’t the most effective form of insulation, and spray foam insulation shouldn’t be applied by a novice.

It’s paramount that spray foam insulation is applied by a trained spray foam installer. If spray foam is applied incorrectly the benefits that justify you buying it won’t justify the money you saved doing it yourself, as the performance of those could be affected!

Icynene® spray foam expands to 100x its size when applied, so it fills every possible gap. Icynene® contractors have had specialised training to ensure that they apply the spray foam evenly across the surface. If you use a spray foam insulation kit and the coverage you administer isn’t even or gaps are left, the air-barrier is broken. This would mean the DIY foam insulation wouldn’t be as effective.

The benefits of spray foam insulation:

  • Air-tight, so reduced heating bills
  • An average of 50% saving on your energy bills
  • Completely moisture tight, eliminating condensation
  • Sound proofing
  • No more mould
  • Reduced air pollution
